The HIV/AIDS National Committee

The committee has as a main objective the prevention and combating the HIV infection in Romania. Besides that the committee also aims to improving the patients’ access to HIV/AIDS specific therapy.
Nowadays, the committee wishes to modernize the informational network by introducing a system that allows real time communication with all the Regional Centers. This application will help to monitor the patients from a medical point of view and also to estimate cost of ARV therapy.

Prof. Sorin Rugina MD

Prof. Sorin Rugina MD has dedicated his whole career to the infectious diseases speciality and especially to HIV/AIDS. He graduated from the Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest, undergoing other specialization trainings in Spain.
He has dedicated his activities both to the medical practice, but also to research and education, creating a school as a part of the “Ovidius” University in Constanta.
He is a member of numerous national and international societies, author of a number of infectious diseases reference books and also numerous articles in Romanian and foreign magazines.
He was awarded many titles and prizes, among the most important are the following: “The excellence award for the entire activity” by medic.ro in 2006 and “The Medical Merit Order, Knight's rank, awarded in 2010 for his special contribution in research and medical practice.
In the HIV area, along with the team that he is leading, he strived for optimizing the complex assistance for these patients both in the clinical and psychosocial area, by creating a Pattern of Care in the HIV/AIDS Regional Center.
